The High Energy Materials Society of India (HEMSI) was founded in the year 1983 to provide a forum for interaction among scientists, researchers, and technologists working in the field of High Energy Materials and allied technologies. HEMSI is enriched with seven chapters in different parts of India. HEMSI has a strength of more than 1,500 life members from DRDO, ISRO, academia, and industries all over the country.

Since inception, HEMSI has organized seven national conferences and fourteen international conferences in different parts of the country. The 14th International Conference HEMCE-2024 was held during 1-3 Feb, 2024, at VSSC, Trivandrum. These conferences are very useful for updating the stupendous progress and advances made in the field of HEMs nationally and internationally. Constructive deliberations made in these conferences lead to road maps for technological breakthroughs and scientific innovations for future work in the fields of Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics and allied fields. The society recognizes outstanding contributions made by Scientists, Technologists and Academicians in the field of HEMs by conferring them with the Honorary Fellowship of the HEMSI society. Numerous awards are given away to recognise contributions made and encourage the scientific community. Exhibitions held as a part of the conference are an opportunity for industry partners to showcase different products and capabilities in the area of civil & defense sectors.

Currently the society is revamped with its new webpage as a platform to widen horizons of the activities of the Society. Recently, the Bye-Laws framed in way back 1983 has been revised inline current developments and the same has made available in the Society’s webpage. Young Scientists have been inducted in the Governing Council to ensure youthful vibrancy and innovative ideas. Valuable guidance of distinguished Scientists and Technologists are acknowledged and they have been made part of Patrons and Advisory Council.

We plan to hold the 15th International HEMCE in April 2026, where fresh roadmaps and paradigms will be planned. I look forward to active participation from all chapters and members in the years to come.
